Becoming Invisible On Facebook Chat

Facebook is a social media site that plays a monumental role in bringing people together worldwide. It connects friends, family, and co-workers on a public forum. The brainchild of Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook is a site that has a range of features.

It allows you to post pictures and videos, comment on your friend’s timeline, form Facebook groups on various topics. Facebook also has a Messenger app that allows one to talk to friends, relatives, and colleagues. 

Becoming Invisible On Facebook Chat

However, there are instances where one would rather remain invisible in the Facebook chatbox. You could need to be invisible when you want to ask a question to your colleague. Or when you would rather not disturb someone with a call or text.

One can turn on the invisible feature if they are busy and do not want to respond to someone’s message or article immediately. 

You can turn on the invisible feature for all your Facebook chat options by using the following steps.

How do you appear as invisible in the Facebook Chat

Step 1

Go to the Facebook Chat panel and click on the gear icon. You can now open the ‘Options’ menu pops up.

Click on the ‘Go offline’ tab from the list that pops up in the drop-down menu. By clicking this option one can appear invisible on all chats to their Facebook friends.

Step 3

The next step is to select the Advanced settings option that can be found in the drop-down menu.  This allows you to become invisible to selected contacts and friends. Facebook allows you to choose who you are invisible to. You can open the ‘Turn on Chat for All Your Friends Except’ option in the list. Then type out the names of all the people you want to be invisible too. You can also click on the ‘Turn on Chat for Only Some Friends’ field in the list to enter the names of the people to who you want to be visible to. 

Step 4

Click on ‘Save’ to set your choices and preferences.

Open the browser and log into Facebook. 

Step 2

Go to the tab that’s labeled as Chat. This is located in the lower right corner of your screen. The next task is to click on the Gear icon and then select ‘ Turn off Active Status’.

Step 3

A window will now appear on your screen. The message that is shown is ‘ Turn off active status for all contacts’. Once that appears you just have to click on ‘Okay’. 

This feature can be used for a particular set of friends, family, or relatives. If there is anyone who you would not like to chat with at the moment, you can simply fiddle with your settings as directed above to appear as if you are offline. This trick can be used not just in the Facebook browser but in other places as well.

How to seem offline while using Facebook Messenger on the browser 

Step 1

On the left side of the screen, you will see the Messenger tab. Click on that.

Select the gear icon at the top left of the Messenger tab and then click on “Settings.”

Switch off the  “Show when you’re active” option by moving the slider to the left.

How do I appear offline in the mobile app on Facebook

To show as offline on the Facebook app on the mobile you should follow the steps listed below.

Open the app on your phone.

Step 2

Click on the three horizontal lines that can be found at the top of the right corner.

Now click on settings and privacy. Once you have done that select settings

Go to the Privacy section and click on ‘Active status.’
